DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State senior
Caleb Sarsland was named the NAIA Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday.
The national honor comes one day after Sarsland earned his second consecutive Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week award.
Sarsland, a Bowman, N.D., native, earned the NAIA recognition following his runner-up finish at the Marauders Invitational Friday at McDowell Dam in Bismarck, N.D. He completed the 8-kilometer course in 25 minutes, 3.71 seconds, placing second among 63 runners.
His performance helped Dickinson State finish fourth in the team standings at its second meet of the season.
The result marked Sarsland's second top-10 finish in as many meets this fall. He opened the season by placing seventh among 479 runners at the Augustana Twilight Invitational, completing the 5K in 14:49 as the top non-NCAA Division I finisher.
Sarsland has now collected national and conference recognition in consecutive weeks. His Frontier Conference award Tuesday was the fifth conference weekly honor of his career.
Dickinson State returns to competition Friday, Oct. 2, at the Jimmie Invitational in Jamestown, N.D.
