DICKINSON, N.D. — Dickinson State responded to a difficult opening set with a convincing second-set victory, but Carroll regained control to defeat the Blue Hawks 3-1 (25-13, 15-25, 25-13, 25-18) Thursday night in Frontier Conference play at Scott Gymnasium.
The Blue Hawks moved to 4-11 overall and 3-5 in the Frontier, while Carroll improved to 12-3 and 7-1 in conference play.
Carroll controlled the opening set behind a .343 hitting percentage before Dickinson State flipped the match in the second. The Blue Hawks turned an early 4-1 deficit into a 6-4 lead and later used a 6-0 run to pull away for a 25-15 victory.
Dickinson State hit .227 with 13 kills and only 3 attack errors in the set. Rylee Kogolshak served consecutive aces during the decisive run as the Blue Hawks evened the match.
The momentum shifted back to Carroll in the third. After Dickinson State briefly moved ahead 4-3, the Saints took control and used a 5-point run to build a 21-9 advantage on their way to a 25-13 win.
Dickinson State produced its best hitting percentage of the night in the fourth at .282 and made a late push, scoring 4 straight points to cut Carroll's lead to 22-18. The Saints answered with the final 3 points to close out the match.
Aubrey Allison led Dickinson State with 13 kills and added 17 digs, while Carmen Pallone finished with 12 kills. Ashtynn Egan recorded a team-high 22 digs and Kogolshak totaled 33 assists, 16 digs and 3 aces.
The Blue Hawks held a 10.5-6 advantage in total blocks, but Carroll finished with 53 kills and hit .217 compared with Dickinson State's 42 kills and .116 hitting percentage.
