Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Blue Hawks fall to Montana Western

DICKINSON, ND: The Dickinson State University Men's basketball team played the Montana Western Bulldogs on Friday evening.

The first half proved to be a struggle for the Blue Hawks in the opening few minutes of the first half. The Bulldogs went on an initial run of 12 – 2 in the first 4 minutes of the ball game. For the second evening in a row, the Blue Hawks struggled to find their offensive rhythm, and found themselves down 24 points (20 – 44) with three minutes left to play in the first half. However, the final 3 minutes the Blue Hawks went on a run of their own, to trim Montana Westerns lead down to 17 (29 – 46) at the break. Montana Westerns Max Clark led the way for the Bulldogs in the first half shooting a perfect 5 of 5 from the field and scoring 15 points.

The defense for the Blue Hawks in the second half picked up only allowing 36 points to the Bull Dogs. They forced Montana Western into taking some tough shots, and DSU was able to finish most of their possessions with a rebound to go the other way. Offensively, Dickinson would continue to struggle as they couldn't seem to get their shots to fall despite having many good opportunities to convert. Dickinson was led by John Evans (FR/Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada ) offensively who would score 14 of his 17 points in the second half. Because of the scoring woes of the Blue Hawks, Montana Western would end up with the victory with a final score of 82 – 59.

"Disappointed in our effort today. The trend with us seems to be every other game. Time to rally the troops and figure out a way to bring consistent energy every game." – Head Coach Derek Selvig

The Blue Hawks were led by John Evans who score 17 total points for the game. Aushanti Potts-Woods (SR/Tacoma, WA) would follow up with 13 points. Trey Hladky (SO/Gillette, WY ), Cobe Begger (SO/Wibaux, MT), and Tyce Dahlberg (FR/Buffalo, WY ) would all pitch in 2 points.

As a team the Blue Hawks finished with 27 total rebounds, 14 turnovers, and 6 assists.
