Blue Hawks bounce back with big win over Bacone

BELLEVUE, NEB. - Tyce Dahlberg had a career-high 21 points and added eight rebounds to lead Dickinson State (1-1, 0-0 NSAA) over Bacone College (0-2, 0-0 CAC), 84-44, on Saturday.

Despite committing 26 personal fouls, the Blue Hawks were able to hold the Warriors to just 44 points on 24% (12-49) shooting. BC struggled to capitalize on the fouls as they also shot just 59% (19-32) from the charity stripe. DSU got the scoring started early, jumping out to a 10-1 lead just three minutes into the game. After Bacone started to battle back, cutting the lead to 12-7, Dahlberg went on a personal 5-0 run pushing the lead back to 17-7. Dickinson State was able to maintain at least a seven point lead the rest of the half and headed into the break leading 36-24.

The second half was all Blue Hawks as they used a 28-5 run to balloon their lead to 70-34 with 6:20 left in the game. The Blue Hawks took 40 shots in the second half, connecting on 19 of them for a 48% clip. They went 8-17 from three six different Blue Hawks connected from deep in the half. A 7-point run by Jake Daniel late in the half gave DSU its final margin in the 84-44 victory.

Daniel had 13 points and Gus Wright added 10 to join Dahlberg in double figures. John Evans, DC Stewart, and Bradyn Palmer all had eight points in a balanced DSU offense as nine of eleven Blue Hawks found the scoring column. Dickinson State shot 32-71 (45%) from the field on the game and dominated the rebounding battle 50-35. "Very good effort by our young team this weekend" coach Derek Selvig noted. "Love the way we bounced back today and played together. I feel like we learned a lot about ourselves this weekend which will help us continue to build".
