Strong bench effort powers Blue Hawks over Presentation

Sagan Osborne | Dickinson State Sports Information Director

DICKINSON – Dickinson State used a dominant defensive effort, and led wire-to-wire, to take down Presentation College, 72-58, for their second straight win over the Saints on Friday night.

On a rare night where the Blue Hawks got just 26 points from their starting five, the bench stepped up in a big way. Tyce Dahlberg scored a team-high 13 points and pulled down 4 boards, while Jake Daniel scored 5 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and had a career-high 6 assists. The Blue Hawk bench outscored the Saint bench 46-36 on the night despite PC getting their two leading scorers off the bench.

Offense was hard to come by early in the first half, as the Blue Hawks held just a 5-2 lead five minutes into the game. Neither team broke 10 points until a pair of Kose Egbule free throws gave the Blue Hawks an 11-6 lead with 11:23 left in the half. The Saints came within two at 20-18 with 5:54 left in the first half, but the Blue Hawks responded with a 16-8 run to close the half and head to the locker room with a ten point advantage. Six points from Bradyn Palmer down the stretch helped DSU extend their lead late.

The second half was controlled by the Blue Hawks, with the Saints never able to mount a serious rally. A pair of dunks by Egbule and Dahlberg stuck out as exclamation marks on a dominant home effort by DSU. For the game, the Blue Hawks outshot the Saints 58 percent to 35 percent and outrebounded them 46-32. Cordell Stinson made an impressive season debut, as he returned from an injury that has kept him sidelined all season and scored 8 points on 3-3 shooting while grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing out 2 assists. Egbule scored 11 points to lead the DSU starters that went an uncharacteristic 0-13 from three on the day.

"What a great team win tonight," said head coach Derek Selvig. "So fun to be able to get everyone in the game and have success. We were very happy with our defensive effort tonight."
