Blue Hawks drop shootout with D2 Chadron State

BELLEVUE, Neb. – Dickinson State got 16 points apiece from Kose Egbule and Aidan Fishell and shot 51 percent from the field, but fell to NCAA Division II Chadron State, 90-83 in an exhibition game in Bellevue, Nebraska.

Trey Stevens added 13 points and 4 assists, while John Evans chipped in 11. The Blue Hawks shot well from deep, going 10-24 (42 percent), but a 41-32 rebounding advantage for the Eagles was a big difference in the contest. Chadron State was able to collect 16 offensive boards despite missing just 35 shots for the game.

A back-and-forth first half saw both teams go on extended runs, but it was the Blue Hawks who held a tight 39-37 advantage after the first half.

Both teams struggled from the free throw line with the Blue Hawks going 13-19 (69 percent) and the Eagles going 13-21 (62 percent).

"It was a tough game for us," said head coach Derek Selvig. "Chadron State is a good team. They have a ton of talent and they're well coached. Our weakness right now is rebounding. We have to figure out a way to get boards when we make teams miss. I think that was the difference in the game, but man this team is a lot of fun to coach!"
