BISMARCK, N.D. — Dickinson State earned its first Frontier Conference road win of the season, defeating Bismarck State in four sets, 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 15-25, 26-24), Wednesday evening at the BSC Armory.
The win moves the Blue Hawks to 10-9 overall and 6-8 in conference play. Bismarck State falls to 3-16 and 1-13.
Ashtynn Egan led Dickinson State with 13 kills, while Macie Wheeler contributed eight kills on 12 swings (.667). Setter Rylee Kogolshak recorded 39 assists, 11 digs, and four block assists. Carmen Pallone added seven block assists and six kills, and Cate Floy tallied 10 kills and four blocks. Libero Geraldyne Fernandez led the back row with 20 digs.
In the opening set, Dickinson State used a mid-set push and held off a late surge by the Mystics to take the frame 25-23. Kills by Egan and a service ace from Pallone helped the Blue Hawks close it out.
Bismarck State jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second set, but Dickinson State responded with a 13-2 run sparked by back-to-back service aces from Fernandez and a pair of kills from Floy. The Blue Hawks never trailed again in the frame and took it 25-21.
The Mystics dominated the third set, using a 10-3 run to open up a lead and hitting .370 in the frame. Dickinson State was limited to just eight kills with seven errors, falling 25-15.
In the fourth, Dickinson State started strong again, opening with a 5-0 run led by kills from Egan and Aubrey Allison. Bismarck State clawed back to tie the set 24-24 before a kill from Floy and a Mystic attack error sealed the match, 26-24.
Dickinson State finished with a .142 hitting percentage and 10 total blocks. The Blue Hawks also held a narrow edge in digs (61-59) and matched the Mystics with four service aces apiece.
