GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Dickinson State became the first team this season to take a set from No. 2-ranked Providence (Mont.) at home, but the Blue Hawks fell in four sets (25-14, 18-25, 25-8, 25-15) in a Frontier Conference matchup Friday night at the McLaughlin Center.
The loss drops Dickinson State to 11-11 overall and 7-10 in conference play. Providence improves to 25-1 and remains unbeaten in Frontier action at 18-0.
The second-set win by the Blue Hawks was a historic mark, as it not only handed Providence its first dropped set at home in 2025 but marked just the fourth set the Argos have lost in conference play all season.
After struggling offensively in the first set (.000 hitting percentage), Dickinson State responded with its best offensive frame in the second, hitting .132 and recording 14 kills. Carmen Pallone led the way with six kills in the set, including back-to-back points late that helped the Blue Hawks pull away.
Setter Rylee Kogolshak directed the offense with 30 assists while adding 17 digs and five block assists. Pallone finished with a team-high 13 kills on a .345 hitting percentage and added one block assist. Aubrey Allison contributed six kills and 15 digs, while Samantha Oase posted six kills and five total blocks.
Defensively, Dickinson State tallied 65 digs as a team, with four players registering five or more. Ashtynn Egan notched 14 digs, while Abigail Beddes added five. The Blue Hawks also recorded eight team blocks and limited Providence to a .190 hitting percentage overall.
Providence responded emphatically in the third set, using a .364 attack percentage and a 9-2 run to open a commanding lead the Blue Hawks could not overcome. The Argos closed the match in the fourth set behind four service aces and 10 kills.
Cabry Taylor led Providence with 11 kills on .320 hitting, while Martyna Fiedler and Franny Martins added nine and seven kills, respectively. Bella Thompson handed out 35 assists and was part of six blocks. Kyra Saiers anchored the back row with a match-high 25 digs.
Dickinson State totaled 36 kills with 34 attack errors on 149 swings for a .013 hitting percentage. Providence posted 45 kills and 19 errors on 137 attempts.
