DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State opened its home weekend with a Frontier Conference win Friday afternoon, defeating Rocky Mountain in four sets, 3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 19-25, 29-27), at Scott Gymnasium. The Blue Hawks improved to 8-7 overall and 4-6 in league play, while the Battlin' Bears dropped to 1-14 and 0-10.
DSU took early control with efficient attacking in the first two sets, combining for 27 kills and just nine errors. After Rocky Mountain extended the match with a third-set win, the Blue Hawks regrouped and closed the fourth set on a 4-1 run to secure the match.
Carmen Pallone led the way with 13 kills on .321 hitting, along with three blocks and 15.5 points. Makyah Albrecht added 12 kills and hit .400, while Aubrey Allison also recorded 12 kills and led all players with 25 digs. Setter Rylee Kogolshak guided the offense with 45 assists and added 10 digs.
Samantha Oase finished with seven kills on .417 hitting and tallied a match-high eight blocks. Taylor Fischer contributed 11 digs and two aces from the libero spot. DSU hit .199 as a team and posted 11.0 total blocks.
Rocky Mountain was led by Sadie Meier with 12 kills and a .333 attack percentage. Kaitlyn Wood and Ella Kincaid each added eight kills. The Battlin' Bears hit .125 and finished with 12.0 blocks.
"Happy to start the weekend on a win," said head coach Stormy Siemion. "Good momentum headed into playing Carroll tomorrow."
Dickinson State returns to action Saturday at home against Carroll College.
