Dickinson State Outpaced by Eastern Oregon, 91-78

LEWISTON, Idaho – Dickinson State fell behind early and was unable to recover, dropping a 91-78 non-conference decision to Eastern Oregon on Saturday afternoon at the P1FCU Activity Center.

The Blue Hawks (2-4) trailed by as many as 22 in the second half before trimming the deficit with an improved offensive effort down the stretch. After a sluggish start, Dickinson State shot 60.7 percent from the field in the second half, but it wasn't enough to erase a 17-point halftime deficit.

"Disappointed in our effort tonight," said head coach Derek Selvig. "We have to be able to play smarter and tougher on back-to-back nights. We showed a little spark in the second half but just not consistent enough."

Griffyn Doughty led the Blue Hawks with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting, while DC Stewart provided a second-half spark off the bench, scoring all 13 of his points after the break. Quincy Linton and Weston Zacher each added 11 points.

Dickinson State shot 54.5 percent (30-of-55) for the game but was hampered by turnovers and second-chance opportunities from Eastern Oregon. The Mountaineers held a 17-1 edge in second-chance points and outrebounded the Blue Hawks 36-28.

EOU (3-1) used a 14-2 run midway through the first half to create separation, capitalizing on cold shooting and turnovers by DSU. The Blue Hawks managed just two made threes before the break and trailed 50-33 at the half.

The Blue Hawks responded with a 45-point second half, fueled by improved ball movement and outside shooting. Stewart connected on three of his four attempts from long range, and DSU hit five of its seven threes after halftime.

Michael Nance grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and added five points and two blocks off the bench. Aric Winczewski finished with seven points and a team-best four assists. DSU's bench contributed 30 points overall.

Eastern Oregon placed five players in double figures, led by Eamon Monahan with 17 points. The Mountaineers shot 52.3 percent from the floor and 94.1 percent (16-of-17) from the free throw line.
