HELENA, Mont. – Dickinson State dropped a Frontier Conference road match at Carroll College on Friday evening, falling in four sets (15-25, 25-20, 17-25, 22-25) at the PE Center.
After struggling in the opening frame, the Blue Hawks responded in set two with improved execution on both ends of the court. Behind a .243 team hitting percentage and timely blocks at the net, DSU evened the match at one set apiece. Carmen Pallone registered three of her eight kills in the second set, while setter Rylee Kogolshak distributed 10 assists and added a service ace.
Kogolshak finished with 39 assists, 11 digs and two aces to lead the Blue Hawks (12-14, 8-13 Frontier). She helped orchestrate a balanced attack that featured four players with at least eight kills, including Aubrey Allison (10), Macie Wheeler (9), Pallone (8), and Ashtynn Egan (8). Allison added 15 digs but was held to a .-020 hitting percentage as Carroll's block proved effective throughout the night.
The Saints (17-13, 12-10 Frontier) controlled the tempo in the third set, forcing 10 Blue Hawk attack errors to reclaim the match lead. Despite a late push in the fourth, DSU was unable to overcome Carroll's efficiency at the net and clutch plays down the stretch.
Pallone paced the defense at the net with five solo blocks and two block assists, contributing a team-high 14.0 points. Egan and Wheeler each hit .200, and Samantha Oase chipped in three blocks and three kills.
Defensively, libero Geraldyne Fernandez recorded a match-high 23 digs, while Taylor Fischer and Taylor Gaer added six apiece. The Blue Hawks totaled 78 digs and 12.5 total team blocks, but were out-hit .138 to .093 on the night and gave up nine service aces.
