Blue Hawks take down Doane, move to 3-0

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. – Dickinson State moved to 2-0 at the Siouxland Invitational with a 3-1 victory over Doane on Friday afternoon, winning 3-1 (22-25, 25-9, 25-12, 25-23). The Blue Hawks improved to 3-0 on the season.

Dickinson State finished with 43 kills on .203 hitting and added eight aces, 13.5 total blocks and 45 digs. Doane totaled 40 kills on .030 with two aces, 3.0 blocks and 46 digs.

Aubrey Allison led the Blue Hawks with 12 kills. Makyah Albrecht added nine, and Carmen Pallone posted 10 on .500 hitting. Samantha Oase contributed six total blocks. Rylee Kogolshak directed the attack with 32 assists and added 10 digs, two aces, four kills and four block assists. Taylor Fischer served four aces with eight digs. Ashtynn Egan had 10 digs, Geraldyne Fernandez added nine digs and one ace, and Cate Floy chipped in five kills.

Doane was led by Brooke Larsen with 20 kills and 10 digs. Camdyn Carpenter had 26 assists and 10 digs, while Kate Roseland added six kills.

The match turned after a tight first set. Doane closed the opener 25-22, but Dickinson State answered with a dominant second set behind four aces and four blocks to win 25-9. The Blue Hawks kept the momentum in the third, hitting .500 with 13 kills; Floy ended the frame with the final swing for 25-12. The fourth was even late. After Doane drew level at 21, a Pallone and Allison block put Dickinson State back in front. Floy converted for 24-23, and a Doane attack error ended the match 25-23.

Head coach Stormy Siemion said the response after the first set set the tone. "We had a slow start, but the team bounced back and came to compete," Siemion said. "We have strong competition tomorrow, and we are working to improve a few areas so we can continue to compete."

The Blue Hawks will be back in action tomorrow at the Siouxland Invitational as they take on Governors State and Briar Cliff at 9:30 am and 12:00 pm, respectively.
