DILLON, Mont. — Dickinson State dropped a Frontier Conference road match to Montana Western, falling in straight sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-19) Friday night.
The Blue Hawks (7-2, 3-1 Frontier) were limited offensively, finishing with 29 kills against 27 errors on 133 attempts for a .015 hitting percentage. Freshman outside hitter Cate Floy and sophomore middle blocker Carmen Pallone paced the attack with eight and seven kills, respectively. Pallone also added three blocks, while senior pin hitter Makyah Albrecht contributed five kills and a team-high four block assists.
Setter Rylee Kogolshak directed the offense with 26 assists and added two block assists and one service ace. Defensively, junior libero Geraldyne Fernandez recorded 12 digs, while senior defensive specialist Taylor Fischer collected 14 digs to lead the back row effort. Ashtynn Egan added 10 digs.
Montana Western (5-6, 3-1) hit .194 as a team, finishing with 38 kills and 10 total blocks. Kennedy Lingenfelter led the Bulldogs with eight kills and eight block assists, while libero Taylor Ketchum posted a match-high 25 digs.
Dickinson State trailed early in each set and was unable to overcome Montana Western's net play. The Blue Hawks were within 16-15 in the first frame and tied at 10-10 in the second before the Bulldogs closed each set on extended runs.
The loss marks the first conference setback of the season for Dickinson State after opening league play with three straight victories.
The Blue Hawks continue Frontier play on the road Saturday, Sept. 13, facing Montana Tech in Butte.
