DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State dropped a tightly contested Frontier Conference match to Montana State University-Northern on Friday afternoon at Scott Gymnasium, falling 3-2 (25-20, 19-25, 22-25, 25-19, 16-14).
Aubrey Allison led the Blue Hawks (7-4, 3-3 Frontier) with 20 kills and 14 digs. Rylee Kogolshak paced the offense with 43 assists and added 15 digs, while Cameron Gouw chipped in 11 kills and Carmen Pallone added eight.
Dickinson State hit .165 as a team with 59 kills and 29 errors on 182 attempts. Allison recorded four of the team's nine service aces, and Ashtyn Egan collected a team-high 22 digs. Abigail Beddes added 11 digs defensively.
After dropping the first set, Dickinson State responded by hitting .214 and .237 in the second and third sets, respectively, to take a 2-1 match lead. The Blue Hawks were efficient at the net, with contributions from Allison, Gouw, and Macie Wheeler, who finished with seven kills and three blocks.
MSU-Northern (6-6, 4-2 Frontier) answered in the fourth and capitalized on key errors in the fifth to edge the Blue Hawks in extra points, 16-14.
Despite leading in kills (59-56) and total points (75-73), Dickinson State was out-blocked 16-7 and committed 12 service errors. The Blue Hawks also narrowly trailed in digs, 87-86.
Dickinson State will look to bounce back on Saturday, Sept. 20, when they host Frontier Conference leader #4 University of Providence.
