VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Dickinson State dropped a four-set Frontier Conference match Friday night, falling 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-19, 25-18), to Valley City State inside W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.
The Blue Hawks (7-7, 3-6 Frontier) battled throughout, taking the second set behind a balanced attack that posted a .278 hitting percentage. However, Valley City State (6-8, 4-5) responded with efficient hitting in the final two sets to close out the match.
Aubrey Allison led Dickinson State with 14 kills while hitting .256 and adding 14 digs. Rylee Kogolshak directed the offense with 41 assists and chipped in six kills and 11 digs. Cate Floy and Carmen Pallone each tallied eight kills, with Floy adding three blocks. Samantha Oase contributed eight kills and two blocks, while Taylor Gaer recorded 12 digs and two aces.
As a team, Dickinson State finished with 52 kills and a .182 hitting percentage. The Blue Hawks recorded 60 digs, seven blocks and four service aces.
Valley City State was led by Macy Fridgen's 20 kills on a .378 hitting clip and Danielle Hagler's 13 kills and five blocks. The Vikings hit .295 as a team.
Dickinson State opened strong in the first set, keeping pace before a late run by the Vikings sealed the opener. The Blue Hawks answered in the second set, racing out to an early lead and holding off Valley City State for the win. The Vikings took control in the third and fourth sets with efficient hitting and timely defense.
