BISMARCK, N.D. — Dickinson State opened the indoor season Saturday with a strong overall performance at the Marauder 2026 Opener, posting multiple event wins, national qualifying marks and school records across both the men's and women's competitions at the University of Mary Fieldhouse.
The Blue Hawks were productive in the sprint events early in the meet. On the women's side, Faith Brennan qualified for the 60-meter final and placed fourth in 8.02 while also earning points in multiple events. Brennan won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.92, a personal-best performance that ranks among the NAIA's top marks this season. Mady Willis finished fourth and Taytum Stuhr sixth in the same event.
The men's sprint group was led by Quentin Lewis, who won the 200 meters in 22.56. Logan Borden placed second and Kohbe Smith finished third, giving DSU three top-three finishes in the event. In the 60-meter hurdles, Dickinson State placed three athletes in the top four, led by Jarett Schuchard's second-place finish, followed by Cole Kukuchka in third and Maximus Kadrmas in fourth.
Middle-distance events produced additional scoring and record-setting performances. Mia Handran won the women's 800 meters in 2:22.59, while Natalie Lile placed second in the women's 1,000 meters, establishing a new school record in the event (3:05.25). On the men's side, Hudson Atkinson finished fourth in the 800 meters, Kyler Holinde scored in the 1,000 meters and Caleb Sarsland recorded a second-place finish in the mile with a personal-best time.
Field events were a highlight throughout the meet. Ty Leischner won the men's high jump by clearing 2.04 meters, a mark that met the NAIA national qualifying standard. Adarra Hagelund claimed first place in the women's high jump at 1.68 meters, with Taylynd Stuhr placing third. Holden Will won the men's pole vault, while Stuhr captured the women's pole vault title and Willis added a third-place finish.
The throws group delivered multiple wins and record-breaking performances. Dylan Dahlgren swept the men's shot put and weight throw, setting a new school record in the weight throw with a mark of 19.24 meters. On the women's side, Kori Nagel won both the shot put and weight throw, also establishing a new school record in the weight throw (19.08m). Rebecca Eacker recorded a national qualifying mark in the weight throw while placing second, and Alician Parks added scoring finishes in both events.
In the horizontal jumps, Brennan placed second in the women's long jump and added points in the triple jump. Ethan Schiller won the men's triple jump and placed among the top finishers in the long jump, with Garin Opdahl also contributing points.
Dickinson State closed the meet with solid relay performances. The men's 4x400 relay "A" team placed second in 3:37.22, while the women's 4x400 relay finished third in 4:37.42.
"All around a good effort," said Dickinson State head coach. "We've had a hard week of work in practice and many athletes are tired and sore, so it's great to see some great performances given that. It's great to see them compete like that."
