BISMARCK, N.D. — The Dickinson State men's and women's indoor track and field teams posted a strong all-around showing Saturday at the U-Mary Winter Classic, highlighted by multiple event victories, personal bests, and nationally ranked performances as the Blue Hawks continued their early-season progression.
Senior Adarra Hagelund delivered one of the top performances of the meet, winning the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.76 meters. The mark set a new indoor school record and personal best while earning the top NAIA ranking this season. Hagelund also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, recording a personal-best time.
The Blue Hawks' throws group continued to anchor the scoring. Dylan Dahlgren won the men's weight throw with a mark of 19.17 meters and placed third in the shot put at 15.53 meters. On the women's side, Kori Nagel swept both throwing events, winning the shot put at 14.94 meters and the weight throw at 19.18 meters, a new NAIA #1. Both marks rank among the top performances nationally. Rebecca Eacker and Codi Nagle added key scoring finishes in the shot put, while Eacker and Alician Parks placed inside the top five in the weight throw.
In the horizontal jumps, Kohbe Smith placed second in the men's triple jump with a personal-best mark of 14.30 meters, a performance that ranks inside the NAIA top 25. Ethan Schiller added a third-place finish in the event and also competed in the long jump.
Dickinson State saw strong contributions on the track as well. Caleb Sarsland won the men's mile, finishing in 4:15.00, that ranks second in the NAIA. Drew Abrahamson placed seventh in the men's 5,000 meters, while Jacob Littleton recorded a personal best in the mile with 4:53.32.
The women's 4x800-meter relay claimed first place with a time of 9:45.00, a track-converted mark that ranks fifth nationally. The men's 4x800-meter relay finished second in 8:20.93. Dickinson State also won the men's 4x400-meter relay, posting a season-best time of 3:25.77.
In sprint events, Quentin Lewis placed third in the men's 200 meters, while Jarett Schuchard advanced to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles and placed seventh. Mady Willis recorded a personal best and placed fifth in the women's 60-meter hurdles final.
Head coach Shayne Wittkopp noted the balance between development and performance.
"Today's meet we switched some things up and a lot of our athletes got work in their second or third events. We rested a few of athletes took the week off. With that said we had a few Stellar performances. Adarra Hagelund jumped a new personal best and an indoor school record 1.76M that improves her season best that was the national lead. Kohbe Smith set a new personal best in the triple jump as well with a mark of 14.30M. The women's 4x800m relay ran a track converted 9:38 which ranks them number 5 in the naia. Caleb Sarsland runs a track converted 4:11.76 in the mile. That time ranks number 2 in the naia."
Dickinson State will continue its indoor season next weekend as preparations build toward Frontier Conference competition and the NAIA Indoor Championships.
