THIS WEEK IN BLUE HAWK WRESTLING
DSU men's wrestling returns home this weekend to host its premier home event of the season, the 14th Annual Tyler Plummer Classic, set for Saturday inside Wienbergen Gymnasium. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. (MST) as the Blue Hawks welcome a large and nationally diverse field for a full day of competition.
Held in memory of former Dickinson State wrestler, alumnus, and assistant coach Tyler Plummer, the Tyler Plummer Classic continues to serve as both a tribute and one of the most significant in-season tournaments on the Blue Hawks' schedule. The 2026 edition is expected to feature approximately 34 teams, with representation spanning NAIA, NCAA Division II, junior colleges, and regional programs.
The tournament honors the lasting impact of Tyler Plummer on Blue Hawk wrestling and the university community following his passing. Formerly known as the Dickinson Classic, the event was renamed in his memory to recognize his passion for the sport, commitment to student athletes, and service to the program as both a competitor and coach. The Tyler Plummer Classic has since grown into an annual tradition that reflects the values he embodied, including perseverance, sportsmanship, and unity.
The event has established itself as a staple on the regional wrestling calendar and a key mid season checkpoint for programs preparing for conference and postseason competition. Dickinson State enters the weekend receiving votes in the national poll and currently sits fifth in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The Blue Hawks will compete on their home mats looking to build on strong performances throughout the first half of the season while continuing to develop depth across all weight classes.
Several Blue Hawks bring conference and national recognition into the weekend. Jackson King enters the tournament ranked 15th nationally and second in the conference at 184 pounds, while Donivan Giangregorio is ranked 15th nationally and third in the HAAC at 197, follwing a strong 6th place finish at the Missouri Valley College Invitational. Heavyweight Seth Suvak carries a No. 13 national ranking and sits third in the conference. Wyatt Engwicht is ranked sixth in the HAAC at 125 pounds, Charlie Irwin checks in eighth at 133, Marcus Mireles is fifth at 141, Bradlee Shaw is seventh at 174, and Jack Simons is ranked fifth in the conference at 184, after an 8th place finish at the Missouri Valley College Invitational.
The Blue Hawks also return a strong group of proven performers from last year's Tyler Plummer Classic, where Dickinson State produced nine placewinners and multiple finalists. Engwicht returns after a runner-up finish at 125 pounds, while Ian Mehrens placed second at 157. Simons finished third at 184, and Suvak earned a third-place finish at heavyweight following a dominant consolation run. Jackson King placed sixth at 184, and Grayson Beaudrie placed sixth at 197, highlighting the depth Dickinson State brings back to its home event.
With a full slate of matches across all weights, the Tyler Plummer Classic provides an opportunity for Dickinson State to test itself against a wide range of styles and competition levels while competing in front of a home crowd. As the season moves toward its second half, the event stands as a meaningful measuring stick for both lineup consistency and postseason readiness. Action begins Saturday at 9:00 a.m. (MST) inside Wienbergen Gymnasium.
