DICKINSON, N.D. - Dickinson State turned in a strong overall performance Saturday at the 14th Tyler Plummer Classic, placing multiple wrestlers in championship bouts and recording several podium finishes across the lineup inside Wienbergen Gymnasium. The Blue Hawks advanced wrestlers to finals at five weights and added a tournament title at 197 pounds, highlighting a balanced team effort against a deep regional field.
At 125 pounds, Wyatt Engwicht finished second after reaching the championship match. Engwicht opened the day with back-to-back bonus-point wins, recording a first-round fall before a technical fall in the second round. He rebounded from a semifinal loss with another pin to secure his place in the finals and accounted for 11.5 team points. Dickinson State also placed two wrestlers in the final at 133 pounds. Charlie Irwin advanced to the title bout after a decision in the quarterfinals and a semifinal fall, before finishing second. Brandon Clark placed fifth at the same weight, recovering from a semifinal setback to claim a forfeit win in the fifth-place match.
At 141 pounds, Marcus Mireles led the Blue Hawks with a fifth-place finish, scoring 7.5 points. Mireles earned a major decision in the placement match. Tugg Taylor placed sixth, while Dongjoon Gin competed at the weight but did not score. Hunter Forshee-Kurtz placed fourth at 149 pounds, advancing to the semifinals after a technical fall and a decision. He added a consolation fall to reach the third-place bout. Jesse Van Baalen followed with a third-place finish at 165 pounds, closing the tournament with a 6-5 decision in the placement match after two falls in the consolation bracket.
Dickinson State added more podium finishes in the upper weights. Bradlee Shaw placed third at 174 pounds, recording two falls on his way to the consolation final. Cutter Jones placed fifth at the same weight after earning a technical fall and a forfeit in the placement round. At 184 pounds, Jackson King reached the championship match and placed second, while Jack Simons finished third. King posted a technical fall and a decision to advance to the final, while Simons responded from a semifinal loss with a fall and a major decision in the third-place match.
The Blue Hawks claimed a tournament title at 197 pounds as Grayson Beaudrie earned first place with two falls. Teammate Herby Hinojosa placed second at the weight. At heavyweight, Dickinson State placed two wrestlers in the top four. Seth Suvak finished second after two technical falls to reach the final, and Connor Bleymeyer placed fourth following a pair of consolation wins.
