Blue Hawks Send Four to NAIA Men’s Wrestling National Championships

THIS WEEK IN BLUE HAWK MEN'S WRESTLING
The Dickinson State men's wrestling team will send four qualifiers to the 69th Annual NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championships, scheduled for March 5–7 at Heartland Credit Union Arena in Park City, Kansas. The national tournament, hosted by Visit Wichita, will feature six sessions across three days as wrestlers from across the country compete for the NAIA national title and the coveted Red Banner. All sessions will be streamed live through FloWrestling, the NAIA Network and the Urban Edge Network, with live brackets and results available through TrackWrestling.

Dickinson State enters the national tournament after a fifth-place finish at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The Blue Hawks totaled 99.5 team points in the 12-team conference field and secured three automatic national qualifiers while adding one at-large selection.

Leading the group is Wyatt Engwicht at 125 pounds, who earned an automatic bid following a fourth-place finish at the conference tournament. Engwicht rebounded from an early loss at the Heart Championship and worked through the consolation bracket before securing his national qualification in the true fourth-place match with a fall in 1:44.

At 184 pounds, Jackson King earned an at-large bid to the national tournament after placing fifth at the conference championship. King contributed multiple bonus-point victories during the Heart Championship, including two technical falls and a major decision, to secure his spot on the podium and remain in contention for a national run.

Donivan Giangregorio also earned an automatic qualification at 197 pounds after finishing fourth at the conference meet. Giangregorio advanced to the semifinal round during the tournament before battling back through the consolation side to secure his place at the national championships.

Rounding out Dickinson State's national qualifiers is Seth Suvak at heavyweight. Suvak placed third at the conference championship to claim the Blue Hawks' final automatic berth. He opened his conference tournament with a fall and continued to add key wins throughout the bracket before finishing on the podium.

The quartet represents Dickinson State's presence on the national stage as the program looks to compete against the top wrestlers in the NAIA. The Heart of America Athletic Conference is traditionally one of the strongest leagues in the country, featuring several nationally ranked programs and individuals. Dickinson State entered the postseason receiving votes in the NAIA national poll and finished fifth in the Heart standings. The Blue Hawks also feature nationally ranked wrestlers among the four qualifiers, including Jackson King at No. 18 at 184 pounds, Donivan Giangregorio at No. 19 at 197 pounds and Seth Suvak at No. 21 at heavyweight.

The preliminary brackets for the national tournament were released by the NAIA Wrestling Coaches Association Bracketing Committee. The committee used conference results, national rankings and at-large selections to determine the bracket placements for each weight class. Competition begins Thursday and continues through Saturday as wrestlers progress through championship and consolation rounds. The tournament will conclude Saturday evening with the championship finals.
