MOORHEAD, Minn. - DSU men's wrestling turned in a strong showing Saturday at the Last Shot Invitational, hosted by Concordia University, highlighted by three individual championships and multiple place finishes across the lineup.
The Blue Hawks were led by tournament titles from Cutter Jones at 174 pounds, Pehton Truempler at 184, and Seth Suvak at 285. Dickinson State consistently advanced wrestlers into placement matches throughout the day while also gaining valuable mat time against a competitive regional field. Jones captured the 174-pound title, navigating a deep bracket to finish on top of the podium. Teammate Bradlee Shaw added to the Blue Hawks' success in the weight class with a fourth-place finish, giving Dickinson State two placers at 174.
At 184 pounds, Truempler delivered one of the most notable performances of the tournament. Wrestling unattached, Truempler claimed first place while recording four pins in a combined time of three minutes and 30 seconds, earning recognition for most pins in the least amount of time. Easton DeJong also competed at 184 and finished seventh for the Blue Hawks. Heavyweight Seth Suvak closed the day with a championship run at 285 pounds, securing first place for Dickinson State. Chase Nutting added a seventh-place finish in the weight class, giving the Blue Hawks two placers at heavyweight.
Dickinson State posted several additional top-four finishes across the middle weights. At 141 pounds, Tugg Taylor placed fourth, Marcus Mireles finished sixth, and Dongjoon Gin earned an eighth-place finish. At 157, Ian Mehrens advanced to a fourth-place result, while Tucker Fiene placed sixth. Charlie Larsen added a fourth-place finish at 197 pounds. The Blue Hawks also saw solid results in the lighter weights. Charlie Irwin placed fifth at 133 pounds. Hunter Forshee-Kurtz finished seventh at 149. Jesse Van Baalen placed seventh at 165 pounds.
Several Dickinson State wrestlers, wrestled unattached during the event. Gavin Engwicht placed eighth at 165, Herby Hinojosa finished fifth at 197, and Pehton Truempler competed unattached while winning the 184-pound title. Overall, the Last Shot Invitational provided a productive outing for Dickinson State as the Blue Hawks balanced podium finishes with developmental opportunities across the roster. The three individual championships and multiple place winners underscored continued progress as the team towards postseason play.
