MARSHALL, Mo.- Blue Hawk men's wrestling competed against one of the deepest NAIA fields of the season at the Missouri Valley College Invitational, held on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 23–24, at the Burns Athletic Complex. The two-day event featured 47 NAIA programs and closely mirrored the volume, depth, and intensity of the national championship. The Blue Hawks totaled 52 team points to place 19th overall, highlighted by two individual placers and multiple bonus-point victories across the lineup.
Giangregorio Leads with Sixth-Place Finish
At 197 pounds, Donivan Giangregorio turned in Dickinson State's top individual performance, finishing sixth after a strong run through the bracket. Giangregorio recorded multiple bonus-point victories, including falls in 3:26 and 2:16. His ability to score consistently in a nationally deep bracket accounted for a significant portion of the team total.
Simons Places Eighth at 184 Pounds
Jack Simons earned an eighth-place finish at 184 pounds, navigating one of the tournament's most competitive brackets. Simons posted multiple wins, including a technical fall and a major decision, while also securing two falls during the course of the weekend. His advancement into the placement rounds capped a demanding two-day stretch against nationally competitive opposition.
Engwicht Produces Bonus Points at 125
Wyatt Engwicht delivered one of the most productive weekends in terms of bonus-point scoring at 125 pounds. Engwicht opened the tournament with three consecutive falls, recording pins in 1:08, 0:42, and 0:31. His run carried him into the quarterfinals, where he faced nationally ranked competition. Engwicht's early momentum provided a spark for the Blue Hawks and added critical team points.
King and Suvak Battle Through Deep Upper Weights
Jackson King competed in a loaded 184-pound bracket, earning multiple victories during consolation action. King recorded a technical fall in 4:29 and added a decision win before being eliminated later in the bracket, contributing steady points against high-level opposition. At heavyweight, Seth Suvak wrestled through a lengthy slate of matches, earning a fall in 1:26 along with multiple decision victories. Suvak's weekend included several close bouts against nationally recognized heavyweights, showcasing durability and consistency across two days.
Additional Blue Hawk Competitors
Cutter Jones earned an early fall in 1:19 before facing nationally ranked opponents later in the bracket. Conner Bleymeyer competed in multiple bouts, opening with a fall and gaining valuable experience against elite competition. Hunter Forshee-Kurtz, Charlie Irwin, Tugg Taylor, Daniel Reza, and Grayson Beaudrie each represented Dickinson State in challenging brackets. While several were eliminated early, all competed against deep national fields and gained postseason-level experience in an event designed to test depth and resilience.
