KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Dickinson State University senior Kori Nagel delivered a statement performance on the national stage Saturday and was rewarded today as the NAIA Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, the association announced.
Competing at the SDSU Indoor Classic on Feb. 14, Nagel posted a pair of winning throws against a deep field, reinforcing her standing among the NAIA's elite.
Nagel opened the meet by dominating the shot put, topping a 46-athlete field with a best mark of 15.33 meters. The throw secured the event title and met the NAIA "A" qualifying standard for the national championships. Her 15.33-meter effort currently ranks third on the NAIA performance list this season, adding to a résumé that already includes time at No. 2 nationally.
She carried that momentum into the weight throw, recording an 18.31-meter mark to earn a share of first place. The throw also met the "A" standard and further solidified her position among the country's best. The 18.31-meter performance is ranked third in the NAIA this year, while Nagel continues to hold the top overall spot on the national list in the event.
The senior's consistency at the highest level has been a driving force for Dickinson State throughout the indoor campaign. With multiple automatic qualifiers secured and national top-three marks in both throwing events, Nagel continues to position herself — and the Blue Hawks — for a strong push toward the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
