GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Dickinson State University women's track and field team delivered a historic performance at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships, finishing second in the team standings while capturing three individual national titles in Gainesville, Florida.
The Blue Hawks totaled 41 points to earn the national runner-up finish behind Marian (Ind.), which won the team championship with 51 points.
Dickinson State's success was fueled by multiple All-American performances and three national champions in the field events.
Senior Adarra Hagelund claimed the national title in the women's high jump, clearing 1.78 meters (5-10) to secure the championship and All-American honors.
Junior Faith Sullivan-Brennan earned a national championship in the women's triple jump with a winning mark of 12.35 meters (40-6¼), adding another title to Dickinson State's total and earning All-American recognition.
Senior Kori Nagel delivered a standout meet in the throwing events, capturing the national championship in the women's weight throw with a mark of 19.22 meters (63-0¾). Nagel also earned All-American honors in the shot put, finishing second with a throw of 15.26 meters (50-0¾).
Sophomore Codi Nagle also earned All-American status in the women's shot put, placing sixth with a mark of 13.98 meters (45-10½).
Senior Rebecca Eacker narrowly missed the podium with a 10th-place finish in the women's weight throw at 16.91 meters (55-5¾), while senior Alician Parks placed 17th in the shot put with a throw of 12.19 meters (40-0).
On the track, Dickinson State's women's 4x800-meter relay team of Loli Jarrett, Mia Handran, Lauren Taylor, and Natalie Lile recorded a time of 9:28.77 in the preliminary round. Handran also competed in the women's 800-meter preliminaries, finishing with a time of 2:21.05.
"It was a great weekend at the track for the Hawks and a great way to end the indoor season," head coach Shayne Wittkopp said. "I'm really proud of all the hard work we've put in throughout the season. The women really rose to the occasion this weekend, which was great to see."
The Dickinson State men's team also produced multiple All-American performances during the national meet.
Junior Caleb Sarsland earned All-American honors with a fourth-place finish in the men's 3,000 meters, crossing the line in 8:11.60.
Senior Dylan Dahlgren added another All-American performance for the Blue Hawks, placing sixth in the men's weight throw with a mark of 19.07 meters (62-6¾). Dahlgren also competed in the shot put, finishing 14th with a throw of 15.85 meters (52-0).
In the men's pole vault, sophomore Ty Leischner cleared 4.70 meters (15-5) to place 15th, while junior Adrien Calderon finished 18th after clearing 4.55 meters (14-11).
"The men had a solid weekend as well. It was great to see Caleb get on the podium in the 3,000 meters, and Dylan added another All-America honor to his career."
