Gunderson Earns NAIA Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Dickinson State (N.D.) senior Chloe Gunderson of Powers Lake, North Dakota, has been named the NAIA Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week following a dominant performance at the Al Bortke Classic on April 12.

Gunderson swept all three throwing events she entered, delivering first-place finishes in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw.

She opened the meet with a victory in the shot put, posting a mark of 15.71 meters in a four-athlete field. The throw met the NAIA "A" standard, ranks as the top mark in the NAIA this season, set a new Dickinson State school record, and currently stands No. 6 on the NAIA all-time list.

Gunderson followed with another win in the discus, recording a throw of 50.48 meters to lead a six-athlete field. The mark also met the NAIA "A" standard, is the best in the NAIA this season, and established another school record.

She completed the sweep in the hammer throw with a winning mark of 53.34 meters in a six-athlete competition. The throw met the NAIA "B" standard and secured her qualification for the NAIA National Championships in the event.

"Congratulations to Chloe, she's a fantastic leader on this women's team," head coach Shayne Wittkopp said. "Her hard work has really paid off this season. She's been one of the best athletes in the NAIA through the first month of the season, consistently performing at the top in her events."

This marks Gunderson's second national weekly honor of the outdoor season.
