DICKINSON, N.D. - Blue Hawk men's wrestling delivered a commanding performance Thursday night at Scott Gymnasium, defeating Bismarck State College 42-5 in a dual that featured consistent scoring from start to finish.
The dual opened at 125 pounds, where Wyatt Engwicht set the tone for the evening with a fall in 1:35, giving the Blue Hawks an early advantage. Dickinson State continued to build momentum through the lower and middle weights, with the lineup moving sequentially up the scale throughout the night.
At 133 pounds, Bismarck State recorded its lone scoring effort of the dual. DSU responded immediately at 141, as Marcus Mireles earned a decision to swing the momentum back in the Blue Hawks' favor. Hunter Forshee-Kurtz followed at 149 with a dominant technical fall at the six-minute mark, further widening the gap.
The Blue Hawks remained in control at 157 pounds, where Ian Mehrens battled to a close decision in one of the most competitive bouts of the night. At 165, Jesse Van Baalen added bonus points with a major decision, keeping DSU firmly in command of the team score.
Dickinson State's upper weights continued the trend. Cutter Jones secured a fall at 174 in just 1:21, and Jackson King controlled his match at 184 to earn a major decision. The Blue Hawks closed the official scoring portion of the dual at heavyweight, where senior Connor Bleymeyer recorded a fall at 2:07 to punctuate the team's dominant showing.
Following the heavyweight bout, two exhibition matches were contested at 197 pounds. Grayson Beaudrie pinned his opponent early in the first period, while Charlie Larsen secured a tech fall at the end of the second period both exhibition contests did not count toward the final team score.
Dickinson State finished the night with a 42-5 victory, showcasing depth throughout the lineup and producing bonus points across multiple weight classes.
