HELENA, Mont. – Dickinson State opened the 2026 outdoor track & field season with a strong statement, sweeping the first Frontier Conference weekly field athlete honors, the league office announced Tuesday.
Senior Chloe Gunderson earned Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, while senior Dylan Dahlgren was named Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week following standout performances at the Marauders Outdoor Opener.
Gunderson, a native of Powers Lake, North Dakota, delivered a dominant season debut, capturing titles in both the shot put and discus while posting NAIA national qualifying marks in each event. She recorded an automatic 'A' standard throw of 14.18 meters (46 feet, 6.25 inches) in the shot put and a provisional 'B' mark of 47.42 meters (155 feet, 7 inches) in the discus. Both marks currently rank No. 1 nationally in the NAIA.
She also added a runner-up finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.77 meters (156 feet, 2 inches), which ranks 16th nationally.
"Fantastic weekend for Chloe for her to open up number one in the nation on the disc and shot is great," head coach Shayne Wittkopp said. "She worked hard all fall and winter so that's great to see. She has earned it."
On the men's side, Dahlgren, a native of Soldotna, Alaska, turned in a strong all-around performance in his outdoor debut. He won the hammer throw with a provisional 'B' qualifying mark of 55.81 meters (183 feet, 1 inch), a throw that currently ranks second in the NAIA.
Dahlgren also placed second in the shot put with a mark of 15.50 meters (50 feet, 10.25 inches) and fourth in the discus at 45.83 meters (150 feet, 4 inches).
"Dylan had a very solid weekend coming off short rest from the national meet," Wittkopp said. "It's good to see him feeling this good and performing this well in March."
