KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Dickinson State senior thrower Chloe Gunderson delivered a dominant opening performance to the outdoor season, earning NAIA Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors, the national office announced.
Competing at the Marauders Outdoor Opener, hosted by University of Mary, Gunderson secured first place in the shot put with an automatic qualifying "A" standard mark of 14.18 meters. She followed with another first-place finish in the discus, recording a throw of 47.42 meters to meet the "B" standard.
The senior also added a runner-up finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.77 meters, a performance that currently ranks 16th nationally in the NAIA this season.
A native of Powers Lake, North Dakota, Gunderson has quickly established herself as one of the top throwers in the country, leading the NAIA in both the shot put and discus following the opening weekend of competition.
Dickinson State returns to action Saturday as it travels to Montana State Billings for its next outdoor meet.
