Blue Hawks Host Frontier Conference Meet, Place Fourth in Men’s and Women’s Fields

DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State hosted the Blue Hawk Invitational (Frontier Conference Meet #1) at Heart River Golf Course this week, with both the men's and women's teams earning fourth-place finishes against strong conference competition.

On the men's side, sophomore Jayce Johnson led the Blue Hawks with rounds of 71, 70 and 73 to finish at 214, tying for ninth place individually. Freshman Eric DeBoer closed with an even-par 72 to place in a tie for 17th at 225, while freshman Sam Lewton finished at 226 for a share of 19th. Junior Tyus Thomas added a 228, highlighted by a 74 in the second round, and sophomore Kaden Bishop posted 235 to round out the scoring. Rocky Mountain College captured the men's team title at 17-under, followed by Bellevue at 13-under.

"What a great tournament. We were 4th as a team and almost had a team scoring record so that tells you how tough the conference is," head coach Thadd O'Donnell said. "We finished ahead of several teams that beat us earlier in the year. We closed the gap on Mt. Tech who beat us last week so I felt we played really well. We have some areas to work on but overall very pleased with the guys."

For the women, senior Ellia Soydara paced DSU with rounds of 74 and 75 for a 149 total, tying for fifth individually. Junior Brooklyn Materi fired a 74 in the second round to climb into a tie for 10th at 155. Freshman Camille Poncin placed 21st at 166, while freshman Emma Isaacs finished 24th at 174. Freshman Jori Haugen (189) and sophomore Kiaralynn Weidinger (216) rounded out the lineup.

Rocky's Grace Metcalf won medalist honors at 4-under 140, helping the Battlin' Bears secure the women's team crown at 7-over. Montana Tech was second at 12-over, and Bellevue finished third at 25-over.

"On the women's side our top 3 played very well. I believe we have some room for growth," O'Donnell said. "They are a great bunch of players who work hard so if we keep the right mindset we will see some great golf as we move forward."
